Live Music: The Alex Tremblay Quintet (Free)

Brooklyn-based bassist, composer, and educator Alex Tremblay has been on the scene in New York for over a decade.

Alex studied under jazz legends Nat Reeves and Steve Davis at the esteemed Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the University of Hartford. Alex has composed for both film and dance, as well as music for his own projects and arrangements for others. His most recent project, released in January 2024, is a collaborative record with Guitarist and longtime friend Dan Liparini. His debut album, Thoughts and Images, was released in 2022. As an educator, Alex has conducted masterclasses and private lessons throughout the world. He is a founding member and band leader of the Newport Jazz Assembly Band, developed by the Newport Festival Foundation. This non-profit produces the Newport Folk Fest and Newport Jazz Fest.

Alex is joined by members of the Newport Jazz Assembly Band w/ special guest Leland Baker, saxophonist and music education manager at the Newport Festivals Foundation. Original compositions by Alex, along with other members of the band, will be featured in this concert.

Tony Davis 

Tony is an internationally acclaimed guitarist, vocalist, composer, and producer based in New York City. Tony has played The Blue Note, The Village Vanguard, Smalls, Mezzrow, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Birdland. He has showcased his talents at major festivals, including the Newport Jazz Festival and the Greater Hartford Jazz Festival, and was celebrated as a rising star guitarist at the 2016 Wes Montgomery Tribute Festival.

Tony brings an innovative approach to music seamlessly blends elements of singer-songwriter, Latin, rock and classical music with jazz, contributing a unique and compelling voice to contemporary music. His ongoing contributions to the music scene reflect his dynamic artistry and commitment to pushing contemporary jazz's boundaries and beyond.

Joshua Bruneau

Josh began to study the art of music and taking trumpet lessons when he was 10 years old discovering the recordings of John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Dizzy Gillespie, and Charlie Parker. He formed his own groups, playing locally from a young age. He honed his skills throughout high school at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury, Vermont, and continued his studies at the Jackie McLean Institute at the Hartt School. Josh was introduced to his two most important mentors, Nat Reeves and Steve Davis, and has gigged with them and many others ever since. Josh continues to share his knowledge and passion for music with the younger generation, working closely with the students at Yale university in New Haven, CT.

Michael Camacho 

Michael Camacho graduated from Purchase College with a BA in jazz performance, the Norwalk CT native has performed and recorded with a wide range of the city’s top names in jazz. He has performed at premier venues in the area, including the Newport Jazz Festival. Mike shares his skills and experiences as a teacher for Pelham Music Arts, Larchmont School of Music, Bronx Charter School for the Arts, and jazz outreach concerts for the Newport Festival Foundation.

Leland Baker 

Leland Baker is a jazz saxophonist and music educator. He teaches privately and leads his project/ lecture series, Bridging Gaps. He lived and spent time honing his craft in the great cities of New Orleans and New York City. Leland has had the opportunity to perform and study with many of the city's brilliant artists, including Lawrence Clark, Kahlil Bell, Tim Green, and Roy Hargrove.

Leland attended Loyola University in New Orleans, LA, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies. During his undergraduate studies, he studied with world-acclaimed saxophonists Tony Dagradi, John Ellis, and George Garzone. He later attended the University of Rhode Island, where he earned a Master’s in Music Performance. Leland continues performing, recording, and teaching throughout New England and NYC.

Leland was the featured Teaching Artist for the 1st Janwillem van de Wetering Jazz Invitational in 2022.
