The Grand is excited to announce the 2018 Summer Intensive Programs! The 2017 season was a wonderful introduction to the high level of training and experience we want to offer to young people. The staff is eager to continue to grow with you and your students! Once again, our team has created an experience that is vibrant, robust and engaging for a variety of age groups. To comprehensively train our students, we have created a curriculum that is both instructive and immersive. Students will not only rehearse for their respective productions, but also receive daily instruction in acting, movement, and voice. In addition to this, students will spend portions of their time participating in our “Tech Time” which will include a series of master classes, special guest technicians, and hands-on work.
To broaden their exposure to the various facets of theater, students will also have the chance to work with a guest artist several times during the course of the Intensives. Workshops will include; stage combat, puppetry, directing, mask work, dramaturgy, theatre etiquette, and more! Wednesdays will be special days here at The Grand as we explore the world of musical theater through Film. From 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm every Wednesday, enrolled students will watch a different movie musical as part of their training. The general public is also welcome and parents are encouraged to attend as well.
We have an impressive line-up of Teaching Artists this summer. Each one is a highly experienced professional in their field. Our growing list of guest artists includes both new and familiar faces and is sure to enhance students’ experiences with their diverse skills and backgrounds. We have three great shows this summer and all three are based on classic stories. We will be learning how books are transformed into plays as well as partnering with the Ellsworth City Library to have outdoor reading time to research the respective titles!
Our Tiny Troupe will be performing Disney’s Winnie the Pooh.
This show has lots of flexible casting and is based on the classic children’s books by A.A Milne.
Our Junior Ensemble will be working on The Phantom Tollbooth based on
the popular and fantastical YA novel by Norton Juster.
Finally, our Young Adult Company will perform Peter and the Starcatcher based on the novel
by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which earned nine Tony Awards including “Best Play”.
This story is based on the literary classic Peter Pan and told through fresh and innovative staging.
All three shows will have full productions and performances for the community on the Grand stage. It’s sure to be an exciting summer here at The Grand.
