“The name of the town is Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire… The First Act shows a day in our town. The day is May 7, 1901. The time is just before dawn. A rooster crows.” With such simple words, one of the most iconic plays ever produced for the American stage begins. This live presentation of one of the greatest plays of the 20th century gives local performers the opportunity to play one of eighteen characters with an age range 10 years and older.
Auditioners are strongly encouraged to read the play, which is widely available at libraries, book stores and online.
This is also an opportunity to meet and connect with The Grand’s new Executive Director Nick Turner, who will be directing Our Town as well as surveying talent for further live productions at the theater. As Turner says,“It’s one of my favorite plays. I’ve directed it before and it’s also a selfish opportunity to meet and see the performing talent of the whole region. I’m hoping actors will come from all over and Our Town will represent not just Ellsworth but all of ‘our’ towns.”
Auditions will be held at The Grand on the Stanley Subaru stage. You will read from the script with other performers. Please come with a schedule of your availability through September and October.
*Designers, Stage Managers and technically skilled volunteers are also encouraged to stop by or contact The Grand.
